Bridget looks up a mysterious acquaintance in New York. Conor, away from home for the first time, grows accustomed to military school. Meanwhile, Sam Winslow, a powerful new employer, comes into Ray's life.

Mickey's screenwriting dreams stall out - until he's pulled into a gruesome fix for Daryll's movie star client. Abby starts construction on the new bar while Ray searches for a solution to their problem. Terry tries to win back Maureen one last time; Bunchy's quest for financial independence gets derailed; and Bridget tells her boyfriend who her father really is.

Ray cleans up Natalie's mess. At home, however, he struggles to reconnect with his family and complete anger management. Unable to reach Maureen, Terry visits Conor at military school. A surprise visit from Frank Barnes threatens to sink Mickey back into a life of violence. Bunchy happens upon the business opportunity of a lifetime to provide for Teresa and Maria.

In the present, movie star Natalie James hires Ray to protect her from an abusive husband/manager, which draws him deeper into Sam Winslow's web. Hopes for a beautiful day are dashed at Terry and Maureen's wedding as tensions flare between the Donovans and the Dohertys.

Ray's life is thrown into absolute turmoil when his father Mickey unexpectedly gets out of prison five years early, kills a priest, and arrives in LA, vowing to take revenge on Ray for framing him. Meanwhile, Ray's mentor, Ezra Goldman, and his law partner, Lee Drexler, need Ray to find a way to get a married action star out of a scandal with a transgender woman. Ray must also protect a beautiful singer from a stalker, but the case leads to tension between him and his wife, Abby.

Ray tries to shut down Van Miller's investigation by creating an incriminating video. Ezra is prepped for surgery, but he wanders off. Bunchy moves into his new house, but the housewarming party gets out control. Ray finds out that Mickey put his kids in danger and goes after him.

Ray searches for Frank Barnes in an attempt to get Bridget out of jail. Meanwhile in New York, Terry deals with the return of Damon's father and then takes care of Smitty at Bridget's request. Back in LA, Bunchy is hit with a heartbreaking confession from Teresa.

Ray goes to New York to arrange an illicit surgery that will hopefully save Smitty. Sam agrees to help - but only on the condition that Ray commit a brutal act. Meanwhile, Daryll struggles with his loyalties as Mickey tries to get himself out of jail by turning the tables on Ray.

Ray, Abby, and the kids visit Bel Air Academy, hoping Bridget will get into the prestigious school, but the day is interrupted when Ray has to take care of a case at a Beverly Hills hotel. Mickey, Bunchy and Daryll drive out to Palm Springs to visit Mickey's ex-girlfriend, Claudette. Terry starts a romance with his nurse, Frances. Ray finds out that the murder investigation against Mickey has been shut down.

Ezra has an accident and needs emergency medical attention. Terry and Frances grow closer but things may not be what they seem. Bunchy receives his settlement check and starts house hunting; Mickey unexpectedly visits Ezra to hash out the past. Later, Ray and Avi learn some very unsettling news.

Ray and the family go to Fite Nite at the Donovan Fite Club. Meanwhile, Ray's plan with Sully is put in to action. Mickey has a rendezvous with an unlikely lady. Bunchy encounters someone from his past, sending him into a tailspin.

Ray and Avi find Eddie on the run with Sully's money. Mickey gets kicked out of Bunchy's apartment. Later, Ray puts the word out that America's Most Wanted has been spotted in Santa Monica. Abby and the kids hide out at a swank Malibu resort. Ezra proposes to Deb.

Ray and Terry put their differences aside to try and fix Bunchy's problem once and for all. Meanwhile, Jay asks for a secret meeting with Daryll to decide the future of the movie and their relationship; Bridget's last-ditch effort to save Smitty lands her in an unexpected place; and in the wake of a tragedy, Ray turns on Sam - consequences be damned.

With the ghosts of his past returning, and his father Mickey plotting something in prison, Ray may not have a choice but to return to his roots.
