With Victoria's friend Laura Collins due to arrive for a long holiday, Nanny grouses that the family shouldn't be entertaining. Elizabeth and Victoria plan a dinner party for the Cartlands. Phyllis relates a rumor that Geoffrey has strayed. The family begins to worry about Nanny's odd behavior, which becomes even odder following an accident in the cedar tree.
